A genuine world of memorable experiences inside Hohe Tauern National Park

Rauris Valley is 30 km long, located in SalzburgerLand, and extends from Taxenbach via Rauris to the well-known valley head of Kolm Saigurn, at the foot of the Hoher Sonnblick. But it isn’t just its length that is considerable: Covering 253 km², Rauris (elevation 948 m) is the largest community by area in all of Salzburg province – yet with only about 3100 permanent residents.

The biggest community inside Hohe Tauern National Park (at 1800 km², the biggest nature sanctuary in the Eastern Alps), with its wealth of treasures Rauris Valley is often nicknamed the “secret jewel” of the National Park. With its unique cultural and historical past, including gold mining as well as its role as an important trade route, nature highlights such as vultures in Krumltal or the mineralogical treasures of the Tauern Window, lush alpine meadows, imposing glaciers and waterfalls, as well as the natural beauty of Rauris Virgin Forest in Kolm Saigurn and the Rauriser UrQuell in Hüttwinkltal, Rauris Valley truly represents an astonishing world of memorable nature experiences.

Through cautious interaction with nature, through its traditions and values, Austria’s Rauris Valley has managed to preserve so much that is authentic and good. The valley places a constant focus on hospitality, tradition and sustainable tourism.
